Over 50s Healthy Lifestyles and Information Event

Close to 300 people called in to the Over 50s event at Toll Gavel Church on Wednesday, 23 March, to get information on healthy lifestyles. The event, which was co-ordinated by the Beverley Local Action Team, was held to promote the services that are available to those aged 50 and over.

Many organisations attended the event to promote their services including Age UK, Beverley Lions, East Riding of Council’s library service, Osteoporosis Support and the police and fire services.

Beverley Town Council had a stand and provided a free buffet from local business Jacks, with volunteers from Toll Gavel Church helping to serve food and drink.

The relaxed atmosphere in the church was helped by the buffet and promoted a community feel to the event. Once people had walked around and gathered information they had the chance to sit down and talk to other local people over a sandwich and cup of tea.

Feedback from residents showed they really enjoyed the day with some asking for an annual event.  Lots of residents also signed up to groups that they had not been aware of before the event.

Inspector Mark Coulthard, Neighbourhood Inspector for Beverley, said: “This was a good, worthwhile event, with lots of positive comments by people speaking to me and my staff over issues in Beverley.  It was especially pleasing to have such a high number attending and all the various stalls were kept busy.  We would gladly participate in another similar initiative.”

Vicky Bolton, Beverley and Holderness Local Action Officer, said: “It was a great opportunity to get all the different services together under one roof to promote the work they do. The fact that we got this information out to nearly 300 local Beverley residents is great.  It is a much bigger number than we expected and is down to a great deal of hard work from all the partners involved.”
