Secretary of State for Education Michael Gove declared himself impressed with the standards set by Swinemoor Primary School.
He was accompanied on a visit to the school recently by Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart.
The Secretary of State described the children’s work, progress and effort as “outstanding”.
In a letter to parents, deputy head teacher Jane Sharp said Mr Gove’s comments were testament to the efforts of the children and their families.
She wrote: “The Secretary of State described our childrens’ work, progress and effort as ‘outstanding’. I agree as I am sure you do too.
“I know the visit came about because of the progress the children are making.
“I am delighted that the childrens’ hard work and effort is acknowledged and praised by the school, yourselves and the government!
“As HMI said in November, ‘The children take justifiable pride in their achievements….’ And so they should.”
