Local Elections:Elaine Aird, St. Marys Ward

I have been a resident of St Mary’s Ward for over 30 years and have one son, Gavin. He attended the local primary and secondary schools.

I was a member, along with many others of the Beverley Health Action Tram, which was set up in 2007. I helped organise the march from Saturday Market up to the entrance of the Westwood Hospital on New Year’s Day. I feel that at least we made sure that Beverley kept its hospital.

I am now a member of Beverley Town Council after winning a seat at a by-election in St Mary’s West Ward. Last year I was appointed Vice-Chairman of the Policy Committee. At the last Local Elections held four years ago I stood as a candidate in St Mary’s Ward and lost by only two votes.

St Mary’s Ward will be affected when the Southern relief road is built because hopefully all the coastal traffic will be taken round the town and not through it. This will mean that the centre of Beverley along with Norwood will have less traffic in them.

We need to preserve the heritage of Beverley as this is what draws visitors to the town.

I will be out and about canvassing residents to find out what really concerns them.

I promise the residents of St Mary’s Ward that, regardless of their political persuasion, that I will do my very best to represent their views at all times.
