AFC Tickton approached today’s match in a buoyant mood after last weeks victory over local rivals Mill Lane, and they were almost rewarded with a goal in the opening 30 seconds. Lottie Tuisawau launched the ball forward from the kick off and a deft touch by Lily Brunton placed it perfectly in the path of Lauren Stubbs whose low shot was deflected wide.
The game then became quite open and it was the visitors who broke the deadlock after some neat work by the Hedon midfield allowed Ellen Morrod to run into the box unmarked to fire home. The opening goal seemed to have a galvanising effect on the home team and they took the game to Hedon with Izzie Clark in particular being the focus of several good AFC Tickton plays.
The pressure soon paid off when some neat interchanges between Natalie Cording and Lucie Hall left the ball at Enisha Ali’s feet and she duly opened her account for the season with a neat finish which left the Hedon keeper sprawled on the goal line. AFC Tickton then moved in front after the Hedon keeper fumbled Izzie Clark’s high shot from the left wing and the ball found its way to Lauren Stubbs who once again placed the ball in the bottom corner from close range.
AFC Tickton’s third came shortly afterwards when Lottie Tuisawau passed the ball to the onrushing Lily Brunton, Brunton then fired a hard shot at the Hedon keeper which she did well to parry, only for Lauren Stubbs to head in from a yard out to take the home team 3-1 in front at the interval.
AFC Tickton came out for the second half with the intention of maintaining their advantage and the defensive partnership of Shannon Tong, Molly Pearson, Eleanor Gilbert and Rachael Hill proved to be more than up to the task. The Hedon forwards did have a few sites of goal during the second period but even when they did break through Loralie Castle, the AFC Tickton keeper, more than ably dealt with anything that faced her.
AFC Tickton’s midfield in particular continued to apply pressure on the Hedon players and more superb play by Natalie Cording, Izzie Clark and Lily Brunton ensured that the visitors were pegged back until the final whistle which was greeted with loud cheers from the home contingent.
