Anston were the visitors to Norwood Park on a hot and humid Sunday afternoon.
They won the toss and decided to bat first. A good opening stand of 33 between Karen Sowden and Elly Clarke (17) was broken when the latter was brilliantly caught by Laura Wilson, hitting an off side drive.
Anston then had no answer to Skipper, Sarah McDowell’s bowling changes. First, Hannah McCoid taking a double wicket maiden and then two wickets for Amy Hallohan.
Abbie Warner, Charlie Cooper and Beth Smith taking a wicket each and then the Skipper came from behind the wicket to bowl the last three overs taking 1 for 3.
A brave knock by Karen Sowdon (29) not out, who carried her bat from the start was the best Anston had. Beverley could have hadAnston in more trouble but for 3 dropped catches, however the fielding was very good and the fielders quick off the mark.
In reply, Beverley didn’t waste any time and were determined to finish the match quickly but they did loose three wickets all caught playing lazy shots.
Laura Wilson was unbeaten on 33 (in 36 balls, including four 4s) and Beth Smith 23 in (29 balls) were the pick of the batting. Beverley reached their target with 23½ overs left.
Star of the match was again, Sarah McDowell who captained the side, kept wicket for half the match and then came on to bowl and took a wicket at the end.
Beverley Captain, Louise Todd, who stepped down to let the younger players play in this match said;’
“The second half of the season is now looking much better than the first.”
“A great performance in the field and all but one player got a bowl today.”
“We are not complacent however and need to do better in the Northern leagues games.”
“We are always looking to strengthen or team and welcome new players on Tuesday evenings training at Norwood Park 6 til 8 pm.”
