100’s of spectators turned out for the 2012 Kiplingcotes Derby, and despite the poor visability and late start caused by the dense fog.
Local photographer Nigel Gaden was at the event, it was the first time he had managed to make it to the Kiplingcotes Derby, he said;
“I have been waiting years to see it, I missed it last year by half an hour and finally when I got to go it was foggy!”
“It was so bad that the riders had to dismount at the A 614 main road because it was to dangerous to stop traffic.”
“This meant the riders had to walk the horses over the road remount and race on to the finish. The winner was John Thirsk riding Bob.”
“It was great that even though is was cold and foggy that it did not stop the crowds coming out, I had a great time and will certainly be going back.”
