Make Us Prove It : Call To Country Leaders Over Fast Broadband Promise

One of the UK’s largest satellite broadband providers has challenged the county’s leaders to test its claim that it can deliver fast broadband anywhere in Yorkshire.

“Satellite broadband can now bring superfast internet connection to anyone in Yorkshire immediately, at a price that compares very favourably with traditional internet providers,” said Mark Wynn, managing director of Avonline Broadband, the country’s
largest provider of the Tooway satellite broadband service.

The latest Next Generation satellite broadband technology can connect householders to the internet even where traditional internet providers are unable to deliver a reliable service. In recent weeks the available download speeds have been almost doubled – to a high-speed 18Mbps for some packages.

“We know this new service can be a boon in areas of the UK struggling to receive a good service via land lines, and we are asking MPs, councillors, and local authority officers in Yorkshire to check us out. We can bring one of our mobile demonstration vans and instantly prove to them – and members of the public – how well satellite broadband works anywhere in the county.”

Despite a nationwide investment commitment to deliver fast broadband to every home and business in the future, many people in rural or remote parts of the country remain unable to adequately access the internet because of the distance they live from a telephone exchange or fibre-optic network. Currently more than one in 10 UK households is unable to receive a reliable 2Mbps broadband connection – the minimum target requirement set by the UK Government.

Avonline has announced special introductory pricing for its new services. The most popular Tooway 18 service offering 18Mbps download speeds with 6Mbps upload and 26GB of traffic per month is less than £37.50 per month including free hardware. Solutions start with the new Tooway 2 service which is priced at just £14 per month. All special offer prices are fixed for 12 months and subject to VAT.

“Satellite internet access guarantees the same high level of performance in every location regardless of landscape – on the top of a mountain, in the middle of the countryside, in a small isolated village or a city street. All you need is a small 74cm dish and a modem,” said Mark Wynn.

He added: “Unlike traditional fixed line broadband, satellite download speeds do not drop when neighbours are using the service, so an 18 Mbps service from a satellite can deliver a true 18 Mbps download speed* – great for accessing the internet and especially streaming High Definition video.

“We have doubled the data allowances to allow users to take full advantage of the many online entertainment services now available.

“These new high-speed options mean fast reliable broadband is genuinely available to anyone in the UK today.”

Using Tooway Broadband from Avonline can also mean free telephone calls via the internet, and subscription-free HD TV through the same dish.

According to an Ofcom report of February this year, for ADSL services currently advertised at ‘up to’ 20/24Mbps the average speeds received by customers was just 7.6Mbps.

For rural customers paying for ‘up to’ 20/24Mbps, the average broadband speed received was just 3.3Mbps
