Pottering About in Beverley

Twelve members of Northern Potters Association are showing their work at Creation Fine Arts in Beverley over the Easter period.

Opening on 20th March and running until 28th April the show will expand the already remarkable collection cof ceramicists at the gallery.

Much of it will be new and developing work and will cover both practical and decorative wear.

Nigel Walker, gallery owner, said “The excitement of ceramics is that each piece is unique. Although potters will always have an end vision they often will not be entirely certain how a piece will turn out after the firing process.

This makes it impossible to exactly replicate any single item and means ceramics are extremely popular as pieces that add to the décor of a home or public environment.”

Among the potters taking part Steve Valentine takes his inspiration from the environment surrounding his home in Cumbria and makes both functional and decorative pieces.

Ruth Charlton however makes more characterful figurative work which shows a sense of fun and humour. Nearer to home Barbara Wood’s hand built pieces are often (but not always) functional while Lis Holt’s sculptural work displays her love of the sea and coast.

There is an Open afternoon at the gallery from 1 to 4pm on Saturday 23rd to which members of the public are invited and which some of those showing will attend.
