Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, Graham Stuart has visited two businesses in his constituency that have grown out of the New Enterprise Allowance Scheme.
The scheme, set up by Government, is open to people who are claiming Job Seekers Allowance and demonstrate the flair and ambition to begin their own business, taking them off of benefits and bringing growth to the small business sector.
Graham said, “I was impressed by the professionalism of the businesses I have seen today, from a bespoke chauffer service to a motorbike spray painting shop; the product quality is a great credit to the hard work and determination of these entrepreneurs and the people who have helped them to develop their businesses.
“Unemployment in East Yorkshire is lower than the national average and the success of schemes like this will see those figures fall even further and demonstrate that there is help available for people who want to work hard and get on in life.”
East Riding of Yorkshire Councillor, Jane Evison said,
“The New Enterprise Allowance Scheme has been extremely successful in East Yorkshire, with over 2,000 people entering the scheme and a healthy 45 per cent of entrants completing the programme and launching their own business.”
“Due to the success of the scheme it has been extended from March to September this year and a further 750 places have been made available in East Yorkshire, we are delighted to be able to continue to help people get back into work.”
