Beavers Youngsters Get A Wake-Up Call Against Doncaster

Following a brilliant run of victories in recent weeks, it was only natural that the boys should go into this contest brimming with confidence. But they were in for a very sudden wake-up call.

In the first game Doncaster were a brilliantly organised and aggressive side, clever in the ‘offload’, quick at the ‘breakdown’, slick in the backs. And it soon began to show on the scoreboard. Beverley defended well though.

Once again Oliver Scanlan was the omnipresent tackler. Kai Bosworth also showed great courage in defence. Max Cowey’s determination was rewarded with a try. Final score: Beverley 1 Doncaster 5.

The boys upped their aggression in the second game. Tom Hirst and Marcus Reid powered forward, but were met by ferocious Doncaster tackles. Newcomer Ellis Webb continued to show promise, as did Josh Naylor.

Conor Murphy was both brave and technically shrewd in the ruck. Harry Spence and Oliver Rogers are displaying more confidence every week. Final score: Beverley 1 Doncaster 6.

This was the first time the boys had met Doncaster, but hopefully it will not be the last; these were great games of competitive rugby, superb to watch and played in an excellent spirit.

Coaches’ Tackler of the Week: Oliver Scanlan. Coaches’ Player of The Week: Conor Murphy.
