This Is A Hugely Exciting Time For Female Footballers – Says Gemma Thomas

Gemma Thomas from the East Riding County FA says it hugely exciting times for Women’s football in the area.

Gemma who is the Women’s and Girls Football Development Officer was said;

“This is a hugely exciting time for female footballers, and I’m proud to be involved at a time of such successes in the area.”

“There has at no time been a better time to become a part of such a fantastic sport. The pathway for female players is constantly growing and developing and there have never been more opportunities to get involved in playing, refereeing or volunteering.”

There has been a lot of success for the East Riding Girl’s Football League, and the selection of local referee Chelsey Andrews to take charge of the

Chelsey said;

“It was quite a shock to receive the appointment, I’m really pleased though nervous as well. I’ve worked really hard over the past few years so it’s nice to see it’s starting to pay off.”

The FA Girls’ Youth Cup Final between Everton and Liverpool is a real thumbs-up to the all-round quality in our regional leagues.

Development of the women’s game in the East Riding was also given a boost with the launch of new soccer schools, Gemma said;

“With 60 youth female teams in our area the East Riding County Football Association in partnership with 16 local Charter Standard Clubs are about to launch an overwhelming number of new girls mini-soccer centres for girls aged between 5 and 11.”

“These club based sessions are designed to give girls the chance to experience football for themselves. No matter where you have played, or even if you are new to the sport, everyone is welcome.”

“Enjoyment is at the heart of every session. Girls learn new skills and develop their technique but make friends and have fun at the same time.”

Abigail and Isabelle who have taken part in the sessions commented;

“I get to learn lots of new things. I get to learn how to pass and how to dribble. We get to practice our skills and tricks. It’s fun and I get to meet new people. I just love it!”

The sessions are taking place at Beverley Whitestar, Hessle Rangers, Costello, Hessle Town, South Holderness, Stamford Bridge, Dunnington, Filey, Shiptonthorpe, Pinefleet Wolfreton, Malet Lambert, North Ferriby, Cottingham Rangers, Hornsea, Costello, Mill Lane United and Fulford.

All players who take part will also be presented with goody bag.
