Friary Nursery School, in Beverley, has been saved from closure after two members of staff, Mari-Clare Mumby and Rachael Boyd stepped in to keep it open.

Last month, parents received notice that the nursery, due to decline in numbers would close. However, two or members of the team there have decided to take on the nursery.

In the shadows of Beverley Minster, Friary Nursery School is in its 26th year in the town, and as from September, big changes made will hopefully ensure it continues to offer childcare in Beverley for another 26 years.

Mari-Clare and Rachael will be taking over the business from sisters Anne Trynka and Denise Benfield.

Speaking to HU17.net Mari-Clare said;

“Myself and Rachel are taking over from my mum, Anne and aunty and plan to make a number of changes with the key one being open longer.”

“After conducting some market research, we realised that if we wanted to keep going, then we needed to be open all more so we could accept children from working parents.”

“Traditionally we have been a term time nursery and closed our doors at 4pm, that just does not fit in for many families these days. Our goal is to make the facilities available to working parents ”

Mari-Clare has worked at Friary Nursery School for 10 years and says the decision to take on the nursery was an easy one.

She also says that her and Rachael, who has been working there since it opened are relishing the challenge and have the full support of the parents, she said;

“Feedback has been very good, since we announced the new hours, we had already seen an increase in people booking places at the nursery.”

“In the past couple of weeks we have had eight new children who will be joining us in September because we have changed the opening hours.”
