Beverley Racecourse Celebrate 50 Years of Leconfield's Search & Rescue Squadron

Beverley Racecourse’s final meeting of 2014 looks set to be a poignant one as it welcomes the team from Leconfield’s Search & Rescue Squadron to say farewell.

After 50 years of operations from Leconfield, 202 Squadron is being disbanded and the iconic yellow helicopters will be retired from active duty.

To thank the team for all its years of service to the community, Beverley Racecourse have invited the squadron to join them at its final meeting of 2014 to enjoy an afternoon of hospitality and some well-deserved down time.

A race has been named for the squadron and will be run at 4.15pm, after which members from the base will present a prize to the winner. It is also hoped one of the helicopters themselves will be putting in an appearance on the day for racegoers to admire.

Marketing Executive Kate Mckee said:

“The sight of the yellow helicopters over the East Yorkshire skies has become a familiar one over the decades and we felt that the occasion deserved marking. We hope that local people will come along on the day and join us in wishing the squadron all the best for the future.”

Flight Lieutenant Becca Bethell said:

“Lots of members of the squadron have enjoyed a day or two out at the races over the years, and we’re thrilled Beverley Racecourse has chosen to put a race on in our honour and invite us all along.”

The racecourse is putting out a call for anyone who has been helped by the Search & Rescue team over the years to get in touch with them before the day on 01482 867488 or emailing kate@beverley-racecourse.co.uk
