Audience feedback on Vincent Regan’s stage adaptation of ‘A Christmas Carol’ already surpasses expectations. Comments include ‘we felt as though we were in Dickens’ world’ and many people felt emotionally moved by the production, the performances and the ambience of the theatre.
Volunteers have worked around the clock to get the theatre ready in time for a hectic festive schedule.
Project manager Sue Kirkman said: “We worked until midnight every night the week before opening to get things ready and although there was a moment when I wasn’t sure we would be ready, by curtain up, every last job was completed and I am absolutely delighted to hear the positive comments from our audience, who have arrived in droves to be a part of the theatre.
“Many people have told me personally and via our social media pages that West End quality has come to the East Riding.”
“We knew we had set the bar high and that A Christmas Carol would engage audiences but it really makes our efforts worthwhile to hear such praise and kind support. Our professional actors have all brought something of their own, and the Director, Mike Friend, has used Vincent’s incredible adaptation, to give this old tale a new lease of life.”
“Everyone has worked so hard and had so much to do to get the building ready. I am thrilled that the cafe bar has been full every night and there is a real buzz within these walls. You would never know that the bar had only just been installed the day before opening, it already feels established, like home for us all.”
“East Riding Theatre presented Barrie Rutter’s ‘One night Stand’ on 12th December, prior to the official launch. The evening proved a great way to test the venue out; the house was full and the audience were brilliant. This is what theatre is all about – ‘intimate, atmospheric and enthralling’ – are just some of the comments we’ve been receiving during the interval in the bar.”
Vincent Regan’s adaptation of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens will be performed at the theatre until Saturday, January 3.
Sue Kirkman continues: “We have only a few tickets left for performances after Christmas and would advise local people to book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.”
“The show includes eight professional actors as well as a number of amateur actors from the local community.”
“It is also very pleasing to see how grateful the local community is. The county has been in need of its own producing theatre and locals no longer have to travel to experience the quality they expect from professional theatre.”
“Now ERT is here, on the doorstep, and future productions are set to get better and better. With the help of the local community our dream has turned into a reality but we won’t rest on our laurels – we have lots more work ahead.”
