A former Woodmansey resident has been handed a conditional discharge after admitting benefit fraud.
Jonathan Jackson, formerly of Hull Road, Woodmansey, had failed to declare that his partner had started working. Mr Jackson continued to receive benefits and fraudulently claimed £3,105 housing benefit and £1,247.89 council tax benefit between August 2007 and December 2009.
The employment was discovered via a data matching exercise and a subsequent investigation led by East Riding of Yorkshire Council investigators.
Jonathan Jackson appeared before Beverley Magistrates on Tuesday, 13th January 2010. He received a 12-month Order of Conditional Discharge and was also ordered to pay £300 towards costs.
Mr Jackson will also have to repay the £4,352.89 he fraudulently claimed.
He was prosecuted under Section 112 (1A) of the Social Security Administration Act 1992 – failing to give a prompt notification of a change in circumstances.
Richard Johnson, sanctions officer, said: “It is important that benefit claimants keep their details up to date and let our benefits team know if there have been any changes in circumstances. If your circumstances have recently changed and you are unsure whether you need to notify the benefits team, then just contact us and we will be able to advise you.”
