This weekend saw the Beverley Barracudas back in action for the first time in 2015 in the Ridings Premier Division.
In a close fought contest with New Earswick, South Hunsley A and Scarborough, the Barracudas put in a strong performance but were held to a draw by Scarborough, who came from behind winning six of the final eight freestyle really races and tying with the Barracudas for first place.
This was an strong performance from the Beverley club who will take maximum points into their next league gala at Scarborough Kingfishers in April.
There were a number of outstanding swims on in the pool at the Beverley Leisure Centre, including from Ellie Mason and Amy Felgate who both won their individual races.
However, the star performance on the night was by Mia Cunliffe who set a new Ridings League Record in the 14 years and under 50m breaststroke where she posted a time of 35.97 seconds, beating the previous record of 36.86 by nearly a second.
Overall this was a good start by the Barracudas in this, their second season in the Premier Division, where they finished third last season behind Scarborough and South Hunsley A.
The club are hoping to go one better this season and maybe challenge for the title, the acid test will be in Scarborough in April where the current champions will be on their home turf.
