Strawberries and Cream – Time For Tea

Strawberries and Cream - Time For Tea

Strawberries and cream may have been flowing at Wimbledon but a council run day centre has been getting into the spirit of summer by hosting their very own strawberry cream tea.

Staff, service users and visitors to Millers Day Centre, in Beverley have enjoyed an afternoon cream tea which featured home-made scones, strawberry shortbread, and cakes.

Also for sale on the day were a range of plants, flowers and herbs grown on the day centre’s roof top garden in pots decorated by some of the day centre’s service users.

Support worker Karenza Malton, who came up with the idea of the strawberry cream tea, said: “The weather has been so nice and warm and with Wimbledon being on we thought it would be the perfect time to host a strawberry cream tea.

“It has been a real team effort with everyone, including staff, volunteers and service users getting involved to help make the event happen.”

The well supported event raised over £300 which will go towards the day centre’s welfare fund to help cover the costs of day trips and activity sessions.

Councillor Richard Harrap, East Riding of Yorkshire Council portfolio holder for adult and carer services said: “What better time of year to hold an event like this which has raised vital funds for Millers’ welfare fund.

“I would like to congratulate everyone on organising such a fun-filled event that was enjoyed by all.”
Millers’ next fund-raiser will be their annual summer fair which takes place on Tuesday 4 August between 10.30am and 2.30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.
