Beverley Soccer Sixes Wk 15

The opening match saw game one of a double header for ONE10, who were making up games. Their first pitted them against Deportivo in what proved to be a very close and hard fought encounter. ONE10 did most of the pressing and restricted Depo to a few half chances, whilst at the other end Depo keeper Callum made a string of fine stops. After some tough graft the game finished goal less. Depo face a tough task next week against Waterside, whilst ONe10 must fancies their chances against a black sox side who are leaking goals.

Trogs got back to winning ways after a poor two weeks with a thumping 6 – 0 victory over Black Sox. A hat-trick for Tustan, 2 from Cook and a single from Capt. Neale saw the Trogs put pressure on the teams above them. Unfortunately for the Black Sox the snow hasn’t brought them any luck;it’s now 15 conceeded in the last 2 matches – thats one goal every 3.some minutes!

Second placed Soldierdad went down 1 – 0 to a controversial goal against AJ’s, after referee Uzzell alowed play to continue after the AJ’s forward appeared to have entered the penalty area. He waved away the disgruntelled defenders and awarded a goal, which is all AJ’s needed after an impressive display of defending for the remaining 20+ minutes of the match.

In a game that many thought would be the turnaround point of new boys Borrusia Teeth’s season, the spirited team of Angel players took heart from watching the battle between ONE10 – Deportivo, and stepped up to record a 1 – 0 victory with a typical Angel goal. After changing their rotation policy pre-match, Angel certainly stuck to their tried and tested goal scoring formula. A big boot from the back landed at the feet of their top scorer Marcel Veli, and he calmly slotted in the winner, leaving Borussia still in search of their first points.

In the top of the table clash, first placed Waterside took on third placed Weighton in what was billed as a key match in the season. Waterside dropped their first points for a couple of months last week, while Weighton have been 100% since pre-Xmas and it was this form, and a slice of unfortunate luck for Waterside, which saw the Weighton boys take home a 3 – 0 victory. An early penalty from captain Martin Moss gave Weighton an early advantage, beating a great effort from Dan ‘The Cat’ Janney in the Waterside goal. When top scorer Danny Moore slipped and crocked his knee, Weighton took full advantage. Moore could only hobble around as Waterside had no subs, and the crisp passing and finishing of Weighton saw them record a comfortable victory and saw them move up into second place, now only a point behind Waterside.

The final game saw ONE10 play the second match of the night against in-form BarceHullona. Even with their high fitness levels and military discipline, ONE10 seemed a little tired after their earlier efforts and never really matched BarceHullona, who have learnt to win ugly when needed. With that been said, their first goal was of real quality.

A crisp pass from the back was pushed to the front man, and a key ball out wide produced a tidy knock down for Nicky Moy who smashed a volley past keeper Kev Bluff. BarceHullona continued to dominate, and it was Moy again who classily placed the ball past Bluff for number two, to wrap up the points for his team. Everyone on the BarceHullona side put in a great display, and the boys continue their impressive 100% start to the new year.
