Students Meet For A Virtual Cross Campus T Level Celebration

In recognition of T Level Celebration Week, T Level Agriculture, Land Management and Production students from Bishop Burton College near Beverley and Riseholme College just outside Lincoln met in a purpose-built virtual classroom.

Both colleges have been using virtual reality as part of the curriculum for some time but this exciting event marked the first time T Level students from both campuses have had the opportunity to interact together in this way. Virtual reality is now a commonplace tool for supporting learning on technical and vocational qualifications at both colleges, enabling students to practice and develop skills in a controlled and safe situation.

Historic Beverley Minster provided a spectacular backdrop to celebrate the academic achievements of students from University Centre Bishop Burton (UCBB), in its annual Graduation Ceremony.

Family, friends and special guests were welcomed by Governor Susan Hamer, to witness students graduate in a range of subjects including Animal Sciences, Agriculture, Environmental Conservation, Sport and Exercise Science, Criminology, Equine, Floristry and Teacher Training.

Stock Skills Competition Showcases Specialist Skills At Bishop Burton College

Agriculture, Animal Management, and Equine students put on an impressive display at Bishop Burton College during the 63rd Stock Skills competition.

Stock Skills prepares students for a large country show by preparing them for a variety of tasks. Each student prepares for the event by practicing grooming and clipping skills, and ensuring the animal’s diet means it is in optimum condition. They compete in Dairy, Sheep, Goat, and Equine classes. Competing requires the development of specialist skills and knowledge that can also be transferred to the workplace.

Bishop Burton College Butchery Apprentice Wins National Award

Luke Hobson, butchery apprentice with Bishop Burton College was named Best Apprentice Showing Management Potential in a Manufacturing Environment at the Institute of Meat (IoM) and Worshipful Company of Butchers (WCB) Annual Prizegiving, held at Butchers Hall in London, on 29th February.

Luke, who competed against butchery apprentices from around the country, is pursuing an Advanced Butcher qualification while holding the position of Trainee Supervisor of the process hall, within the factory at Pilgrim’s UK Lamb Ltd (formerly Randall Parker Foods).

Longcroft School and Sixth Form are celebrating the outcome of their recent Section 5 Ofsted Inspection, which has further validated the school’s exceptional progress over recent years. Inspectors were hugely complimentary about the school and effusive in their recognition of the journey it has travelled since previous inspections.

They acknowledged the hard work of the dedicated staff, and the profound impact that the Wonder Learning Partnership (WLP) Trust has had in supporting rapid improvements, having been commissioned by the local authority to oversee the school in 2019.

Bishop Burton Student Selected For Second Straight Year As BETA Finalist

A graduate of the University Centre Bishop Burton’s (UCBB) Equine department, Lauren Wain, has been selected as a finalist for the British Equestrian Trade Association’s (BETA’s) Equine Thesis of the Year prize.

Developed by BETA in the late 1990s, the competition recognizes equine undergraduate achievements. The competition invites higher education institutions that offer equine degree-level programs to submit one entry, and this is the second consecutive year that a UCBB student has been selected as a finalist.

Bishop Burton College is proud to announce the outstanding achievements of its T Level students as they receive their highly anticipated results this week.   

The T Level in Health saw an impressive 100% pass rate for Health, with all students earning a Merit. Similarly, in the field of Education and Early Years, all 20 students excelled, achieving a 100% pass rate. Notably, the first-year cohort of Education and Early Years and Health students all successfully passed their inaugural year.

A total of 3,584 applications were submitted to East Riding of Yorkshire Council, most of which were made online – an increase of 3.2% from last year – and 3,441 places were offered to students according to their first preference.
