There was no shortage of effort skill and energy in this Beverley performance but it is fair to say that they were out out-muscled by a bulkier pack.
The visitors were again prepared to throw the ball around but it did often result in them turning the ball over early in the tackle count. As a result, Beverley had to defend far too many sets, especially close to their own line which was energy sapping.
This defeat will be a ‘difficult one to swallow’ in the words of the coaching staff.
The Blue and Golds, leading 15-2 at the interval, having played some entertaining rugby in the process, shipped 4 tries in the early part of the second half to undo the good work.

A new look Beverley lineup, probably in the final analysis out enthused their higher-ranked opponents to give themselves a pre-season boost. 6 new faces lined up in the 20 man squad and impressed new Head Coach Trevor Penrose.
The NCL fixtures for 2022 have been released. In a tricky looking opening month in division 2, Beverley will open up with a trip to Hunslet Warriors.
The following week, they will entertain Normanton Knights, in what will be their only home fixture in March, before hitting the road to Dewsbury Moor and Woolston Rovers.
Beverley’s 2021 season has now concluded and they held an end of season awards evening last Saturday evening. There were four awards up for grabs.
Lewis Miller took the committee player of the year. Billy Riby took the coaches player of the year. Dan Smart took the players player of the year and the young player of the year went to Dan Spence.
Beverley ARLFC beat Hull Dockers 30 – 12 gaining a well-deserved morale-boosting win for the Blue and Golds who have been doing it tough for several weeks.
The tough schedule of matches took its toll on the Blue and Golds as they were beaten 50-0 by West Hull.
A depleted Beverley outfit, backing up from Thursday evening’s outing at Hull Dockers, simply had to do too much defending. A full-strength West Hull outfit took full advantage to hit the half-century mark.
The Blue and Golds slipped to this comprehensive defeat against their significantly bulkier and more experienced opponents last Saturday on their travels through to York.
The Blue and Golds will return to action this weekend after a fortnight’s lay-off.
They will travel to Bradford to play Dudley Hill in a cross-division fixture. It will be the longest trip in this Covid-effected regionalised format kicking off at 2.30 PM on Saturday.
This will rank as Beverley’s most disappointing performance of the 4 league fixtures played thus far.
A Heworth outfit hellbent on ambition to be York’s leading amateur rugby league team dominated possession and territory throughout. Beverley struggled to take what few opportunities they did have in attack.
York Acorn inflicted the first defeat on Beverley beating the blue and gold 13-6 at the Beverley Leisure Centre.
As the low score-line suggests, the game was something of a grind. A York Acorn outfit brought size and bulk all around the park and won the arm-wrestle.
