Yorkshire Wildlife Park Gears Up To Reopen As Government Allows Zoos To Open

The award-winning Yorkshire Wildlife Park is delighted at the news that the government has reviewed its decision on current restrictions on the reopening of zoos and safari parks.

The park had taken a severe financial hit as even with 70% of staff furloughed there are still high care and feed bills for their animals. The lockdown has cost the park around £5 million in lost revenue and is impacting its ability to carry out award-winning conservation projects.

Grants Now Available For Tree Planting Projects Across The East Riding

Grants of up to £5,000 are being made available to private and public landowners, town and parish councils as well as other community groups in a bid to increase the number of native trees across the East Riding.

The East Riding of Yorkshire Community Tree Planting Fund is looking to support projects that will include creating new areas of native woodland, planting new clusters of native trees and hedgerows or establishing new groups of individual native standard trees.

Daisy Appeal Sets Target For Launch Of Space Age Weapon In Fight Against Killer Diseases

The charity behind a campaign to raise £8.5 million to provide a Molecular Imaging Research (MIR) Centre at Castle Hill Hospital has set a target for completion by the end of this year and operation early in 2021 after construction resumed at the site.

The Daisy Appeal has also released the first pictures of the state-of-the-art complex which will improve accuracy and detection rates for cancer, heart disease and dementia in Hull, East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.

The new suggested activities – Boats, Windmills and Beverley Town – are inspired by Goole Museum, Skidby Mill, and Beverley Guildhall and feature ideas for music and signing, craft, role play, sensory experiences, and messy play.

Beverley Minster’s National Lottery Sanctuary Project Reaches Key Stage

Crucial work is underway at Beverley Minster to restore part of its crumbling fabric and tell its remarkable story of Sanctuary thanks to a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant of £406,700 awarded last year.  

Made possible by money raised by National Lottery players, the project focuses on the Minster’s Lesser South Transept with the works involving re-leading the roof, repairing the roof timbers, restoring crumbling stonework and improving the guttering.
