East Riding Libraries are celebrating Make Music Day on Friday, 21 June 2024. Featuring a series of events and live music, residents will be able to get musical across the East Riding! With drop in events at libraries and singers popping up in towns across the county, it’s sure to be a day to remember.

Some of our events will include a singer in Little Weighton in partnership with the mobile library, and a Dolly Parton tribute singing her way around Driffield! On Saturday, 22 June, Beverley Folk Festival have partnered with Beverley Library to bring a selection of singers to the venue in the afternoon.

Cotton-Top Tamarin monkeys Consuela and Maurice are nurturing tiny twins . The distinctive monkeys, among the smallest primates in the world, are a critically endangered species and the park is a designated conservation hub to help save them from extinction. The adults share parental duties with Maurice as likely as Consuela to be carrying the youngsters on his back.

Agriculture, Animal Management, and Equine students put on an impressive display at Bishop Burton College during the 63rd Stock Skills competition.

Stock Skills prepares students for a large country show by preparing them for a variety of tasks. Each student prepares for the event by practicing grooming and clipping skills, and ensuring the animal’s diet means it is in optimum condition. They compete in Dairy, Sheep, Goat, and Equine classes. Competing requires the development of specialist skills and knowledge that can also be transferred to the workplace.

Following a successful bid to the Government to fund electric buses in Hull and the East Riding, Hull City Council’s cabinet has approved plans to enable the purchase of 40 electric buses and the allocation of circa £2million of funding from the authority for the installation of charging infrastructure to support the rollout of the vehicles in the city, including for the use of local bus operators and the council’s own fleet of passenger vehicles.
