Tesco Community Grants have funded thousands of local community projects across the UK, helping schools, junior sports teams, foodbanks, charities and community groups. Since 2016 over a hundred local projects voted on in Tesco’s Beverley store have received over £200,000 in grants.

Fairy Tale Christmas For Samaritans
Toll Gavel was given a treat on Sunday 1st December by a group of carol singers who were singing to raise money for Hull Samaritans. The group who comprised of Samaritans volunteers and friends and family raised an incredible £1,163 from passers-by.

Being built on an 11-hectare site off Woodmansey Mile, Bishop’s Gate comprises 183 homes and to date virtually two thirds of them have sold; with buyers attracted by the location and strong mix of homes, which means it appeals to buyers from all walks and stages of life.

Nursery Children Spread Christmas Cheer at Hull Care Home
Christmas came early to Elm Tree Court in Hull as children from Westside Day Nursery joined residents for a morning of festive activities.
The children joined in decorating the Christmas tree, coloured in festive pictures and sang carols, bringing plenty of Christmas cheer to the room.

A charity in Hull which helps disadvantaged children access grassroots sports has received a welcome boost after a single donation from a local business.
The 360 Grass Roots Foundation, set up by 360 Chartered Accountants two years ago, was presented with a cheque for £500 from Hessle-based company, Bureau Technical Services Limited.

East Yorkshire’s Hall Becomes National Squash Champion
Max Hall (Ferriby) recently secured victory in the 2024 ProAir British Junior Squash Championship in the Boys Under 9 category, held from October 31 to November 3 in Sheffield.
Cementing his place as a rising star in junior squash, Hall overcame a series of tough opponents to claim the trophy in an intense and dramatic final.

Students Meet For A Virtual Cross Campus T Level Celebration
In recognition of T Level Celebration Week, T Level Agriculture, Land Management and Production students from Bishop Burton College near Beverley and Riseholme College just outside Lincoln met in a purpose-built virtual classroom.
Both colleges have been using virtual reality as part of the curriculum for some time but this exciting event marked the first time T Level students from both campuses have had the opportunity to interact together in this way. Virtual reality is now a commonplace tool for supporting learning on technical and vocational qualifications at both colleges, enabling students to practice and develop skills in a controlled and safe situation.

Wold Escapes, near Driffield, were delighted to win ‘Remarkable Camping, Glamping and Holiday Park of the Year’ at this year’s REYTA awards.
The glamping site just outside the village of Southburn, has seen expansion in the last two years and is now home to seven glamping cabins all with hot tubs overlooking views of the Yorkshire Wolds and their wildflower meadow.

Your Ticket, Your Choice – Hull Card and KAT Card Now Available Through Bus Operators’ Apps
Bus passengers in Hull can now buy two discounted travel card products, that allow unlimited travel on both Stagecoach East Midlands and East Yorkshire Buses in the city, through their smartphones.
A local campaign from the Hull Bus Alliance will raise awareness of the products on the theme of ‘Your Ticket, Your Choice’ and explain how customers can buy the Hull Card or KAT Card whichever way suits them – whether on board or through the operators’ apps.

Avenues Open Gardens Continues To Blossom For Local Causes
This year’s Avenues Open Gardens saw over 50 gardens open in the HU5 area in aid of Dove House Hospice and other charities. Taking place on Sundays 30th June and 7th July, the event allowed visitors to enjoy the uniquely interesting gardens and architecture of this much-loved conservation area in Hull.

Services Set To Close Temporarily For Move Into Champney Treasure House
A number of council services will be closed temporarily as they move their location to the newly refurbished Champney Treasure House.
Alongside the tourist information centre and customer service centre on Cross Street, Beverley Library will also be making the move from its temporary location within County Hall in Beverley.

Council Serves Closure Order On Two Bridlington Properties
East Riding of Yorkshire Council has obtained a full closure order on two properties in Bridlington following reports of drug dealing and antisocial behaviour.
The full closure orders were granted by Beverley magistrates on Friday 8 November against 55 Abbotts Way and 22 Harrington Road. The properties, a first floor flat and a terraced house, are owned and managed by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Historic Beverley Minster provided a spectacular backdrop to celebrate the academic achievements of students from University Centre Bishop Burton (UCBB), in its annual Graduation Ceremony.
Family, friends and special guests were welcomed by Governor Susan Hamer, to witness students graduate in a range of subjects including Animal Sciences, Agriculture, Environmental Conservation, Sport and Exercise Science, Criminology, Equine, Floristry and Teacher Training.
