Hull Hosts UK Public Film Premiere Of ‘One Summer When You Went Away’

Hull is to host the UK public film premiere of the internationally-award winning feature One Summer When You Went Away in the city’s Old Town next Friday evening, November 19th.

Set in Hull and East Yorkshire and starring Laurence Ellerker, Laura Peterson, Kenneth Mguni, Stan Haywood and Angela Stone, the new 90-minute film has been described as ‘gritty but moving’ and ‘surprisingly sweet’ by festival audiences.

Veterans Travel Free On Remembrance Sunday

Veterans and serving military personnel will be able to travel on buses for free on Remembrance Sunday.

Bus company East Yorkshire will be showing their respect for the achievements and sacrifices of the armed forces by allowing current and past members of the military to board any of their buses for free on Sunday 14 November, to allow easier access to Remembrance Day parades and ceremonies.

Guide Dogs for the Blind is currently recruiting puppy raisers in the Beverley. The charity which supports people with sight loss is hoping volunteers will come forward to help raise the puppies they are training.

An estimated 25 people in the UK start to lose their sight every day. With the charity getting just 1% of its funding from government sources, volunteer’s play a key role.

Young people across the East Riding who want to make a positive change in the area they live and be a voice for young people are being invited to stand as candidates for election to the UK Youth Parliament.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council, working in partnership with East Riding Voluntary Action Services (ERVAS), which are receiving funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, is looking for young people between the age of 11 and 18 to nominate themselves as candidates.
