There will be a closure of the Humber Bridge overnight to facilitate vital maintenance work.
It will involve changing two bearings at the Hessle Tower, although the actual date depends on the weather. The work will be performed overnight one weekend in September/October.
For those planning to travel across the Humber Bridge on May 7th and 8th, additional travel time is advised because vital maintenance is scheduled.
As part of the work to resurface the southbound carriageway, a contraflow will be in place between 6pm on Saturday 7 May and midmorning on Sunday 8 May when the work is scheduled to be completed. Beginning at Hessle Tower, the contraflow will proceed south to Barton anchorage.
Pupils across the region are being invited to create murals that will decorate the Humber Bridge.
Themed ‘what the bridge means to me’ work will be displayed to mark the Humber Bridge 40th anniversary.
The Humber Bridge toll booths are set to reopen following the recent government announcements about the ‘Lockdown Exit Plan’ and going back to work.
The booths were closed on Sunday, March 29, as part of the measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 as the country went into lockdown, and since that date, all traffic crossing the bridge has been using the open road ‘TAG Lane’ (ORT).
Motorists are being urged to drive with care on the southbound lanes of the Humber Bridge from this weekend as essential engineering works re-start.
The scheme to replace the expansion joints at each side of the 1.4-mile long bridge will continue until May 2018 and involves the use of temporary safety ramps to enable traffic to use both lanes as much as possible.
Lane closures will affect the Humber Bridge this coming week as preparations begin for some major engineering works on the A15 road.
As part of the advance works, the Open Road Toll lane and both lanes either side of the central reservation will be closed at the Hessle end of the bridge for two periods.
