146 local runners gathered at East Hull Harriers’ clubhouse in Saltshouse Road to take part in the club’s Boxing Day 10k road race. Known as the seaside marathon, the course starts in the Estadio 1o Maio and follows an undulating route through the beautiful city centre before dropping down steeply to the coast between 19 and 23 kilometres. Andrew Brant of Beverley Athletic Club is celebrating after setting a new personal best in the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday. Another good day was had at Hull Aero Club on Tuesday 1st March with Andrew Brant logging his 25th flight at the club. Flying his foot launch paramotor, he enjoyed a late afternoon flight with several of his fellow pilots. Andrew has being flying paramotors for 5 years and joined Hull Aero Club in 2008 starting his flying career as a hang glider pilot some 30 years ago.

Beverley Athletic Club athletes enjoyed a trip to the seaside on Sunday to run the Withernsea 5 and fun run, organised by Withernsea Harriers. There was a record entry for both races and the offer of free fish and chips for all finishers in the 5 mile race proved a big attraction for Beverley runners. The fourth annual Brathay Windermere Marathon took place last Sunday and 9 brave athletes from Beverley Athletic Club tackled the challenging 26.2 mile course around Lake Windermere. Unlike city marathons which are relatively flat and where thousands of spectators provide encouragement, Windermere offers beautiful scenery, a testing hilly course and few spectators. The East Hull 20 road race attracted a field of almost 400 runners last Sunday, most of them using the event to prepare for the London Marathon next month. The flat 20-mile course is exposed in places and there was no shelter from the strong headwind which plagued runners for the second half of the race.
