Among the thousands of runners from all over the country there were a number from Beverley Athletic club who had been selected to run for Humberside. Conditions were perfect for Sunday’s Burton Pidsea 10k and a record number of runners took part. The 10k and fun run raised £1600 for the village hall appeal. The race was won by Steve Bateson of East Hull Harriers in 32.49. Beverley Athletic Club’s James Pearson came second in 34.45. Beverley Athletic Club’s Junior section were awarded the Tigers Cup in recognition for their achievements in the 11th Humber Bridge Half Marathon. Beverley Athletic Club entered 18 runners in the race which took place in the blistering heat of late June, winning both the boys and girls section. Over 500 runners took part in the annual Airkool Walkington 10k last Friday. On a hot and humid summer’s evening they tackled a challenging hilly course on rural roads between Walkington and Little Weighton. Beverley Athletic Club athletes enjoyed a trip to the seaside on Sunday to run the Withernsea 5 and fun run, organised by Withernsea Harriers. There was a record entry for both races and the offer of free fish and chips for all finishers in the 5 mile race proved a big attraction for Beverley runners.
