Writer and long-distance walker Raynor Winn will be in Beverley on Sunday, 20 October, to talk about her hugely popular book, ‘The Salt Path’, as part of the East Riding Festival of Words 2019.
When they lost their home and livelihood, just as her husband Moth was also diagnosed with a terminal illness, Raynor and Moth started walking. They impulsively decided to walk the 630 miles South West Coast Path, at a time in their lives when they seemed to have nothing left, and no time.
The East Riding Festival of Words will be back from 15 – 20 October, bringing popular authors to the local area to talk about murder, belonging and a great deal more besides.
Writers including Christy Lefteri, Ann Cleeves and Jessica Fellowes will all be in Beverley, as part of the event organised by East Riding Libraries.
The Treasure House in Beverley runs art sessions for children and young people every Thursday after school during term time called ‘Young Creatives’.

A Frank Henry Mason Talk will be held in Beverley in May. The Artist who is renowned for his work at capturing nautical scenes is currently featured in a special exhibition.
Famous for his railway poster designs as a commercial artist, Frank Henry Mason championed the northern coasts of Britain. His fine art paintings particularly featured the coast of Yorkshire.

The day will be a chance to explore the allure of houses in literature – where would our favourite novels be without those idyllic cottages overlooking the sea?
Local authors will be featured heavily in the East Riding Festival of Words – the new look literature festival coming to the area in October.
The festival will be officially launched by Val Wood at Beverley Art Gallery on Thursday, 18 October, at 7.30pm. Val will be giving an exclusive reading of her latest novel, ‘A Place to Call Home’, which will be published in November.
Two exciting new exhibitions will open at the Treasure House in Beverley on Saturday, 15 September.
On the opening day, there will be an Open Event at the Art Gallery when visitors will be able to meet artists, researchers and members of the team at the Treasure House who have been involved in the exhibitions. This free event will run from 1pm – 3pm.

There will be a live quadrophonic performance of the ‘Open Bridges’ music – ‘Moments in Time’ – by John Stead to accompany the ‘Open Bridges’ film at Beverley Treasure House and Art Gallery on Thursday, 21 June, at 6.30 pm for 7.00 pm start.
BAFTA winning composer John Stead will diffuse the especially commissioned work to accompany the film, which has been showing in Beverley Art Gallery this month.
