The stage is set for an arts festival like no other as the wonderful city of Hull plays host to the 12th edition of the award-winning Freedom Festival starting on Wednesday.
This week, Hull will see artists from across the world converge in the maritime city to delight, challenge and mystify audiences with jaw-dropping circus, weird and wonderful street theatre, thought-provoking performances and talks, music from all over the world, and mischievous projects that engage all ages. For 2019, a different layer has been added to the festival, offering a new rhythm for the weekend.
Visitors at the Coletta and Tyson Garden Centre in Beverley and The Freedom Centre Hull were surprised by groups of over-60s performing Bollywood dance, tai chi and watercolour painting in the foyers, as part of Royal Voluntary Service’s volunteer recruitment drive.
Led by local instructors Sandra Thompson, Sheila Dickinson and Austin Holt, the classes were organised to demonstrate just a few of the activities residents in the area can get involved with, bringing more people together to have fun and create new friendships.

An East Yorkshire garden centre has opened its newly refurbished café in a bid to entice more visitors, not only gardeners but people who want a great day out.
