It’s set to be the best Armed Forces Day yet as Beverley Armed Forces Day is set to be the biggest celebration in the region.
Each year, around 5,000 members of the public attend the event to show their support, gratitude, and appreciation for the armed forces.
Beverley and East Yorkshire residents are urged to help support a national tidying campaign by picking up litter in their neighbourhoods.
March 17 to April 2 is the date of the Great British Spring Clean. Councillors from the East Riding of Yorkshire are supporting the campaign and encouraging people to get involved.
During a meeting hosted by Graham Stuart MP, the public expressed their anger at Network Rail’s decision to close without notice the England Springs level crossing just outside Beverley, which is used by over 150 people every day.
Graham was invited to speak at the event, attended by around 50 people, through Sue Crowther, the organiser of the Open England Springs Facebook group.
A call for reopening England Springs Level Crossing, which closed without warning last month, has been backed by Graham Stuart MP.
Over one hundred pedestrians cross this crossing every day, but Network Rail has closed it.
Members of the Armed Forces and their families living in East Yorkshire will be further supported by the new legislation for the Armed Forces Covenant.
In the area of healthcare, education, and housing, the new Armed Forces Covenant Duty, which came into force on 22 November, requires relevant public sector bodies to demonstrate ‘due regard’ for the Armed Forces community and the Covenant principles.

Hundreds of people came out in the historic East Yorkshire Market town of Beverley to mark Remembrance Sunday.

Beverley Armed Forces Day will take place this Sunday with the event being used to celebrate 45 years of military training at DST Lecconfield.
Starting with a parade at 10AM the day will also include live entertainment and a range of stalls with a military theme.
Residents, businesses and community groups are being invited to give their views on proposed changes to some public space protection orders (PSPO) in a number of areas across the East Riding.
In 2016, East Riding of Yorkshire Council introduced 168 public space protection orders, one to cover every parish in the East Riding, to replace dog control orders, no drinking zones and gating orders.
After the success of the recent Military Assistance Social Hub (MASH) in Bridlington, MASH will now be rolled out to other towns in East Yorkshire.
Beverley will see the launch of the next MASH, on Tuesday, 26 April, at the Foresters Arms, Beckside, from 13.30 to 16.00.
A group of neighbours in Beverley have set up a Neighbourhood Watch Group to work together with East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Humberside Police to tackle the problems of anti-social behaviour in their area.
The new group covers the areas of Grovehill Road, Cherry Tree Lane, St Nicholas, Priory Road and Chantry Lane.
A new regional campaign to support the mental health of Armed Forces personnel and their families in Hull and East Yorkshire has begun.
The campaign highlights the range of mental health services that are available across the region for any person who serves or has served in the Armed Forces, and their families. It encourages those who are concerned about or struggling with their mental health to access the support available.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Active Towns project is aimed at encouraging and supporting communities and residents to be more physically, mentally, and socially active in Pocklington, Market Weighton, Goole and Howden.

A sign thanking our Armed Forces in the East Riding for their work during the Covid-19 outbreak has been installed by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
The metal sign, featuring the words ‘THANK YOU TO OUR ARMED FORCES’ is designed to be an uplifting message of appreciation to the armed forces which will be visible coming from their base in Leconfield as they help with the Covid-19 outbreak, whilst also continuing to train personnel to serve and protect the country.

New web pages now available on the council’s website have been designed around themes including employment, education and skills, families, children and young people, health and wellbeing, housing, money advice, together with general information and support.
