As part of the National Lottery Trophies Tour that kicked off in Newcastle on Friday 26 August, 50 days before the tournament begins, the trophies are in the region.

Army Personnel Hone Driving Skills On Yorkshire Exercise

Soldiers and civilian enthusiasts from across the country converged on the East Riding of Yorkshire last weekend to take part in Exercise ROADMASTER.

The challenge, hosted by Leconfield’s Defence School of Transport (DST), saw 13 sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and five motorbikes compete in a variety of races over the course of a day.

'Thank You To Our Armed Forces' Sign Installed At Leconfield Roundabout

A sign thanking our Armed Forces in the East Riding for their work during the Covid-19 outbreak has been installed by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

The metal sign, featuring the words ‘THANK YOU TO OUR ARMED FORCES’ is designed to be an uplifting message of appreciation to the armed forces which will be visible coming from their base in Leconfield as they help with the Covid-19 outbreak, whilst also continuing to train personnel to serve and protect the country.

On a recent visit to the Defence School of Transport, the Director of Land Warfare, Major General James Illingworth OBE, surprised a member of staff with a prestigious Director Land Warfare Coin.  

Sgt Gary Pryor, a specialist instructor at Normandy Barracks, Leconfield, was conducting a mock driving test with a student when he found himself at the scene of an accident involving a car and a motorcycle.

Residents will have a chance to catch a glimpse of an iconic WWII aircraft. On Thursday 10 September the Defence School of Transport will be commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

Part of those events will see a Spitfire perform a flypast as part of the scaled-down commemoration. Military and civilian staff at the Defence School of Transport, Leconfield mark the occasion annually.

A driver training school, where the pupils can be up to seven years away from being able to take their driving test, has given more than 2,500 lessons at its Beverley venue.

Young Driver, which is the UK’s largest pre-17 driver education programme, aims to create a safer next generation of motorists and has been running at the Defence School of Transport in Leconfield near Beverley since July 2018.
