East Riding of Yorkshire Council is supporting Gas Safety Week by raising awareness of the importance of having gas appliances properly checked.
The council’s housing maintenance team will be attending East Riding Leisure Haltemprice on Wednesday 18 September and East Riding Leisure Beverley on Thursday 19 September, between 8.30am and 4pm, to give advice and information.
The refurbishment of the Tone Zone gym at East Riding Leisure Beverley is now open and means the facility can offer brand new, state of the art equipment.
Following the work, equipment now includes the replacement of all the existing cardiovascular and resistance equipment with the latest Matrix models, featuring internet capability; fit touch technology; and updated virtual active videos.
Chair based exercises are available to anyone of any age at East Riding Leisure Beverley every Tuesday from 12noon-1pm.

From rambles and themed walks (including photography, navigation, bushcraft, geocaching and orienteering) to wildlife watching events; from Kids Go Wild events to workshops, conservation days and natural craft workshops – the programme includes something for everybody with an interest in the outdoors. The programme also links to the council’s Active Coast initiative this year.
Former X Factor star Chico is to lead a dance and fitness class as part of a fund-raising Zumbathon in support of people affected by dementia in the East Riding.
Chico, who rose to fame after reaching the quarter-finals of the 2005 series of talent show The X Factor, will lead an hour-long Block Fit session as part of the Zumbathon at East Riding Leisure Beverley on Saturday 12 August.
The annual Care Home Games grand final was held at East Riding Leisure Beverley last week where older residents from the East Riding battled it out for the top prize.
The event was organised by East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Sport, Play and Arts Service and enabled a total of 16 teams from care homes across the East Riding to compete in the grand final of the competition which saw players ranging in age from their late 60s to 102 years old, put their Boccia soft bowls skills to the test.

Major improvements are on the way to East Riding Leisure Francis Scaife in Pocklington, with a £300,000 refurbishment of the Tone Zone gym and cycle studio, and the introduction of online booking.
The Tone Zone gym and cycle studio will be closed from Saturday 6 May. The Tone Zone will reopen on Monday 22 May, when it will incorporate a new TRX wall, which has already proved popular at East Riding Leisure Beverley and Goole.

New activity sessions aimed at helping people with Multiple Sclerosis or Parkinson’s Disease to get mobile and meet others living with the same long term conditions are being launched in the East Riding.
The weekly ‘Grin and Tonic’ activity sessions will start at East Riding Leisure Beverley from Wednesday 18 January, 1-2pm and at East Riding Leisure Haltemprice, from Friday 20 January, 11am-12noon.
Residents visiting registration and celebratory services, entertainment venues, adult learning centres and Bevelrey Leisure Centre that are run by East Riding of Yorkshire Council will now be able to stay connected as free Wi-Fi goes live.
The works represent an important investment by the authority and allow residents to access services and transact with the council digitally.
