Stoneferry Students Face The Facts Of Flooding

Pupils at a primary school in Hull are a step closer to understanding what to do in a flood following a visit from the Environment Agency.

Year five students at Stoneferry Primary School took part in an interactive workshop where they engaged in a range of flood-related activities where they were taught which household objects can be the most useful in a flood and saw them using a geographic model to better understand how rivers flow.

For one week only, the beautiful and historic Court Room at the Hull Maritime Museum will be transformed into a movie theatre screening a series of films relating to the sea and seafaring as part of the national Museums at Night.

This is a chance to see some much loved classics, family favourites and fascinating documentaries on the big screen in a magnificent museum setting. Screenings start on Saturday 21 October and run until Friday 27 October.

RIBA Opens Its Monumental Installation For Hull UK City Of Culture 2017

A Hall for Hull with ‘Trois Points de Vue’ – a joint commission from The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and Hull UK City of Culture 2017.

Officially unveiled to the public on  Monday 2nd October. The monumental temporary installation has transformed Trinity Square with sixteen galvanized steel columns arranged in a grid formation in front of Hull Minster to form a new ‘outdoor room’ for the city.

Partnership Formed To Support Armed Forces Personnel, Veterans And Families

Five local councils have joined forces to strengthen the area’s local Armed Forces Covenants, which support those who are serving, veterans and their families.

Hull City Council, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, North Lincolnshire Council, North East Lincolnshire Council and Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council have secured £480,000 funding from the Ministry of Defence to form a Sub Regional Armed Forces Covenant Partnership. The funding will enable the local authorities to share good practice, develop training packages and working together to improve the support available for armed forces veterans and their families.

The stories and social histories of Black people with African heritage will be shared in Our Histories Revealed, a fascinating exhibition at Hull History Centre next month, as part of the African Stories in Hull and East Yorkshire project.

The project, which received funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund in May 2016, aims to create a record of the local stories, oral histories, art and music that have been collected from people across Hull and the East Riding, from extraordinary family histories to anecdotes remembered over the dining table.
