Members of leading orchestra Sinfonia Viva went to Bridlington nursery, Nursery Rhymes in Cardigan Road, recently to bring music to the children, as part of Classically Yours, one of the key East Riding events in Hull UK City of Culture 2017.

In Bridlington, the children enjoyed music with composer and presenter Jack Ross in advance of Sinfonia Viva’s Flutter and Fly concerts in Bridlington Spa on Sunday 7 May.

The last train departed from Stepney Station in Beverley Road, Hull, in 1965 but on Friday 16 June 2017 at 2pm, the first new arrivals in over 50 years will appear on the platform as pupils and guests of Stepney Primary School unveil a brand-new art installation.

Having obtained funding from Hull UK City of Culture 2017’s Creative Communities Programme, which is being delivered in partnership with the Big Lottery Fund; pupils, parents, staff and friends have been uncovering the history of the station and the branch line railway it once served.

Artists from Handmade Parade, Hull Carnival Arts and Rag and Bone have been working with residents of the Orchard Park Estate to make creatures, characters and flags that will feature in the Extraordinary Orchard Park Parade. The final workshop takes place at St Michael’s Youth Project on Orchard Park Estate between 3.30pm-5.30pm.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is reminding residents that the hugely popular free exhibition, Wildlife Photographer of the Year, on loan from the Natural History Museum in London, closes on Saturday, 22 April.

The touring exhibition at Beverley Art Gallery in the Treasure House has been open since 10 February, but its ten-week run in the East Riding comes to an end at 4pm on Saturday 22 April.

The streets of Hull will come alive with dancing this summer as Luca Silvestrini’s Protein brings its outdoor spectacular (In)visible Dancing to the city as part of UK City of Culture 2017.

The company will work with five Hull-based dance apprentices and five musicians to create the 12th edition of (In)visible Dancing, featuring dance artists, skateboarders, parkour and street performers and a host of performance groups from the region.

Turn and Face the Strange tells the story of the legendary guitarist, who grew up on the Greatfield Estate in Hull, from his early years with bands such as The Rats, through his ground-breaking collaboration with David Bowie and the Spiders from Mars, to his innovative work as an album producer with the likes of Lou Reed and Morrissey.

The continuing popularity of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at the Treasure House in Beverley means that East Riding of Yorkshire Council has announced today that the free exhibition will now be open every Sunday for the remainder of its run.

The exhibition closes on Saturday 22 April, so the final Sunday opening will be Easter Sunday (16 April).

The Tidal Waves team are reminding people wanting to attend the Tidal Waves Beach Music Festival in Bridlington on 9 and 10 June that ‘Early-bird’ tickets, priced at £14 for the Friday evening and £36 for Saturday, are available until 31 March, 2017. Festival tickets for both days are £48.

There are also child tickets available – £20 for the Saturday, or £30 for the full weekend. There will also be a platform for wheelchair users (restricted to 30 plus one carer/friend).
