Acclaimed photographers Martin Parr and Olivia Arthur from internationally renowned photography collective Magnum Photos take a unique look at Hull life in a new exhibition, Hull, Portrait of a City, that opens at Humber Street Gallery on Friday 13 October.
The photographers, whose work has been shown around the world, were commissioned by Hull UK City of Culture 2017 to explore two different aspects of the culture of the city.
Beverley RUFC kicked off on a wet and blustery afternoon at Beaver Park to start this Yorkshire Division 1 fixture, and immediately mounted an assault on the Keighley line.
But, largely due to determined defence by Keighley, were unable to capitalise on their possession of the ball in the early exchanges. In fact during this early period Keighley were unable to hang on to the ball for long enough to get out of their own half.
The organisation set up to deliver Hull UK City of Culture 2017 is to carry on as a permanent national arts company based in the city, it has been announced today.
Building on the success of Hull 2017, Culture Company’s core purpose will continue to be commissioning world-class arts programming aimed at residents and visitors and it will work strategically with partners inside the city and across the UK to cement Hull’s reputation as a centre for culture and creativity.
Pray let it be a long time before we endure another afternoon like this. This was a truly awful game.
There was plenty of huffing and puffing and it was all played in a good spirit but the quality hardly ever rose above the mediocre. What little constructive rugby there was came from Hullensians who fully deserved their comfortable victory.
Conditions were perfect for this season’s opener between York and Beverley at Clifton Park and what a cracking match this turned out to be.
York opened the scoring after 5 minutes with a penalty from in front of the Beverley posts but a Phil Duboulay penalty levelled for Beverley after 13 minutes to make it 3-3.
A bit of a curate’s egg here. There were flashes of scintillating rugby, mainly from Beverley, but for the most part this game never rose above the mundane.
Beverley deservedly won in the end but they made heavy weather of it. They were the better side but they were never quite at their best, probably through being without several of their key players.
Beverley RUFC put last Saturdays disappointing performance at Hullensians behind them as they picked up their third win of the season away at Keighley.
Another courageous Beverley effort but once again without reward. Had they been able to get their hands on the ball a bit more this might have been a different story.
Forget the score. Forget that it was another heavy loss. This was a wholehearted Beverley performance and in the end the margin of defeat was rough justice for a fine effort
Not a lot here to cheer about. To commemorate the club’s Ladies Day Beverley turned out in pink and unfortunately for most of the time they played accordingly.
A one-sided first half but overall plenty of exciting rugby. On an afternoon of early spring sunshine both sides ran the ball from anywhere and despite the final margin of defeat Beverley RUFC emerged from the game with great credit
Another tough fixture against a top four side and another pretty hefty defeat for Beverley RUFC.Forget all about that. This was a rousing game played in a great spirit.
With a little under 2 weeks to go before festival organisers open the doors at the Beverley Rugby Club The festival is set to be another sell out – putting Beverley’s Real Ale festivals
