Athletics club and charity, Fitmums & Friends is proud to announce that its founder and chief officer, Sam Barlow BEM, is a regional winner of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year’s Unsung Hero 2021 Award.

The BBC Sports Personality of the Year’s Unsung Hero Award recognises the volunteers in sport whose efforts are making a difference to our communities. This year’s winner for BBC East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire is Sam Barlow, founder and chief officer of local charity, Fitmums & Friends.

A scheme that was launched nearly 10 years ago to help women with post-natal depression is to embark on a post-Covid campaign to help a wider range of people after securing funding from a business in Hull.

In the Pink, which was set up in 2012 by Fitmums and Friends, is being sponsored by AA Global Language Services to cover the cost of employing a part-time coordinator who will build a network of volunteers.

Walk Hull – West Park is a community walking initiative designed to encourage people to walk in Hull’s West Park. It combines signs in the park with an easy-to-use smartphone app which tells walkers exactly how far they have travelled.
