Each month customers of the Beverley Building Society decide which charity should receive a £250 donation and this month was the turn of Armed Forces charity – SSAFA.
On 10th April 2013, the East Yorkshire Branch of military charity SSAFA Forces Help changes its name to SSAFA as part of a rebrand aimed at improving awareness of the charity amongst members of the Forces community.
The Defence School of Transport, based at Normandy Barracks, Leconfield, will exercise the Freedom of the East Riding at Beverley’s next Armed Forces Day on Sunday 7th July 2013.
On Saturday 8th December, the annual Celebration of Christmas Concert in support of SSAFA Forces Help East Yorkshire took place in Beverley’s historic St Mary’s Church, blessed by Revd Becky Lumley’s most welcome support.
Longcroft School has joined forces with one the country’s oldest military charity, to organise a fundraising Christmas concert at Saint Mary’s Church in Beverley.
Throughout August members of the Beverley Building Society have been voting for which local charity they think should receive a £250 donation from the Society. Votes have been counted and last month’s winner was the Wilf Ward Family Trust.

This will be or could be the fourth year that Beverley has hosted in its historic Saturday Market Place an event to recognise our Country’s Armed Forces, their commitment, achievements and continuing relationships with us all when they leave the service.
Beverley Armed Forces Day is this year scheduled for Sunday 1st July 2012. However with reduced funding available from the MOD we would like to appeal to anyone who may be able to sponsor us to ensure the day is a fitting one in this our Queens Diamond Jubilee Year.
