St Mary’s Church Beverley – home to some of the finest medieval architecture of any parish church in the country – announces that the first phase in its major restoration programme has reached the halfway point on schedule, despite the coronacrisis and the three storms which have passed through since the scaffolding was put up in February!
Eddi Reader, perhaps Scotland’s greatest living female voice, is celebrating her 40th year on stage with a ‘40 Years Live’ concert tour in 2020, which will come to Beverley this autumn.
Eddi has announced she will play St Mary’s Church on Thursday, 1 October as part of the anniversary year, with tickets on sale now.

Using her maiden name, John, who owns and runs Whites Restaurant in North Bar Without, Beverley, had set up the Tyas Foundation, a charity to help vulnerable children across East Yorkshire.
Since 2017 the Culture Train project has taken some of the top musicians from Hull out to play at locations across East Yorkshire and on August 31st the current tour has its finale at the majestic St Mary’s Church.
The project is funded by East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Active Creative fund and began during the 2017 Hull City of Culture year to take musicians out of Hull and visit locations along the Hull to Bridlington rail line.

The brightest stars of the UK’s classical music scene are preparing to visit Beverley for the 2019 Beverley Chamber Music Festival.
Running 25th – 28th September, the festival welcomes two former winners of BBC Young Musician of the Year, violinist Jennifer Pike and cellist Laura van der Heijden, as well as the renowned Brodsky Quartet, to join its Co-Artistic Directors, pianists Martin Roscoe and Libby Burgess.
Following the great success of their charity concert last December, the East Riding & Hull Rock Choir will once again be performing at St Mary’s Church in Beverley on Saturday, June 22nd.
The East Riding & Hull Rock Choir are one of the hundreds created nationwide over the past decade and 28,000 people currently sing within a Rock Choir.
Climate Change was the topic of the day for MP Graham Stuart as he was given a grilling by local children.
The MP for Beverley and Holderness visited St Mary’s Primary School. While there he learned about the work they are doing with regard to climate change.
This Good Friday, April 19th marks 20 Years since Beverley Chamber Choir’s first Good Friday concert in St Mary’s Church Beverley.
Now under the direction of Jeffrey Makinson, the choir will be joined by a professional orchestra drawn from musicians from the North of England, in the intimate setting of St Mary’s Church Beverley, to perform a small scale version of Messiah by Handel.
Hull will remember the millions of people who lost their lives in the First World War, and subsequent conflicts, this Sunday, on the 100th anniversary of the 1918 armistice.
Following a service of remembrance, the city will be participating in a national act to celebrate peace.
