Council Consults On Five-Year Homelessness Strategy

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is seeking feedback on a new strategy which sets out how the council and its partners will work together to tackle the causes of homelessness and meet the needs of people without access to their own home.

The new strategy builds on the work of the last, published in 2013, and has been developed using the findings of a review into homelessness undertaken in the summer of 2017.

Cllr Peter Hemmerman, Market Weighton Town Councillor and Chairman of Minsters Rail Campaign says that Conservative Councillors instead voted on the focus of the council being put into roads and flood defence.

As part of its funding bid to the Department for Transport (DfT), the council has launched an online survey and has arranged drop-in sessions at Beverley Racecourse on Wednesday, 8 November (9.30am-6.45pm) and the Morrison’s Beverley store on Friday, 10 November (9.30am-6.45pm) to hear from the public.

Government Funding Secured For A164 Road Improvements

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has been awarded just under £3 million from the Department for Transport (DfT) to build a new four-arm roundabout on the A164, at the Riplingham Road and Great Gutter Lane staggered crossroad junction, near Kirk Ella.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council was the only local authority in the Humber region to successfully bid for funding and one of only 76 projects across the country to get the go ahead.

Removal Of Sunken Vessels From The River Hull Completed

Contractors working on behalf of East Riding of Yorkshire Council have removed 13 sunken vessels from the River Hull, between Tickton and Beverley Beck, during the month of September.

Removing the vessels was an operational requirement of the multi-million-pound River Hull Integrated Catchment Strategy (RHICS), which was adopted by the River Hull Board in July 2015.

Major Improvement Scheme To Start At Beverley Roundabout

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has announced that a major highway improvement scheme is planned to start on the A1079 Killingwoldgraves Roundabout on Monday, 11 September, 2017, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2017.

The scheme involves widening the A1079 leg from Hull along with the A1174 and A1035 legs to provide longer two-lane approaches and entries to the junction, and also providing two lanes for circulation on the roundabout itself.

Plans Finalised By Council To Remove Sunken Vessels From River Hull

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is appealing for information to help find the owners of 10 sunken vessels in the River Hull located between Tickton and Beverley Beck, as it finalises plans to remove them in September.

The vessels have been identified as causing an obstruction in the river and it was decided to remove them as part of the River Hull Integrated Catchment Strategy (RHICS), adopted by the River Hull Board in July 2015 and supported by the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership, designed to improve the flow of the river and reduce the risk of flooding for local communities.
