Seventeen members of Beverley Athletic Club travelled to Robin Hoods Bay last Saturday to take part in the Smugglers Trod challenge event on the North Yorkshire Moors. This year’s Mucky Duck 8½ mile race attracted a record entry and 229 runners completed the challenging multi-terrain course around Driffield last Sunday. Organised by Driffield Striders, the race was more windy than mucky this year, testing the athletes’ stamina even more on the tough, hilly course. The East Hull 20 road race attracted a field of almost 400 runners last Sunday, most of them using the event to prepare for the London Marathon next month. The flat 20-mile course is exposed in places and there was no shelter from the strong headwind which plagued runners for the second half of the race.
