A public art event which makes puffins the stars of stories of conservation, global warming and green energy has taken off with the installation of the first sculptures in a trail stretching along the coast of East Yorkshire.
Organisers of Puffins Galore! placed the first sculpture at the RSPB Centre at Bempton, home to almost half a million seabirds which cram onto the cliffs every year. The second puffin was installed at North Landing, Flamborough, with another in the centre of the village and a fourth at Sewerby Hall.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council has launched a new grant scheme to help East Yorkshire businesses in the hospitality and leisure sectors that have been most impacted by the Omicron variant.
The Omicron Hospitality and Leisure Grant scheme will support hospitality, leisure and accommodation business premises with one-off grants of up to £6,000.

A series of seven cycle maps, which include 41 rides of varying lengths across the East Riding, are now available to download onto smart phones or other compatible devices.
Designed by the council’s transport policy team, the maps can be found on the authority’s website.
Residents visiting registration and celebratory services, entertainment venues, adult learning centres and Bevelrey Leisure Centre that are run by East Riding of Yorkshire Council will now be able to stay connected as free Wi-Fi goes live.
The works represent an important investment by the authority and allow residents to access services and transact with the council digitally.

An exhibition to highlight some of the East Riding’s most precious objects, revealing many international influences on the cultural heritage of the area, will be on display at the Treasure House from Saturday, 2 June until Saturday, 28 July.
A new exhibition is now showing in the village life gallery at Skidby Windmill. Produced by volunteers from the East Riding Rural Life Project, the exhibition is entitleed “Ox-head and Gruel – a story of Almshouses
