A dramatic weekend of cricket for Beverley Town Cricket Club brought three wins from three games on Saturday and a narrow loss for the 5th XI on Sunday.
The 1st XI secured promotion to the Yorkshire League North; the 2nd XI made significant strides in their own promotion ambitions and the 3rds continued to play a key role in the Holderness Division 2 title race with a narrow win over top of the table Patrington.
A busy Bank Holiday weekend for Beverley Town Cricket Club saw the 1st XI take 57 points from a possible 60 giving themselves a real chance of promotion.
The 2nd XI lost one game and picked up 27 points from their second to slip out of and back in to the promotion places; the 3rds won and then lost in two very tight finishes; and the 4ths rounded off their unbeaten season off in in style with a comfortable win.
Once again Beverley Town Cricket Club had three wins last weekend with the 1st, 2nd and 4th XIs all recording impressive wins, losing a total of only ten wickets in the process.
Beverley record wins against Malton & Old Malton, Sewerby and Gilberdyke on what proved to be a very successful day for the club.
Beverley Town Cricket Club were missing a significant number of players last weekend but others moved up a team or two to make an overall success of the two days cricket with four wins and two draws.
A remarkable series of three close games on Saturday saw Beverley Town Cricket Club lose two and tie one match as the 1st XI were the only Saturday winners with a 4-wicket success at Whitkirk.
The other three teams could all have won with the 2nds and 4ths particularly wasteful in chasing relatively low scores at Norwood.
All teams at Beverley Town Cricket Club finally got under way over the early May Bank Holiday weekend and the Saturday proved to be a big success with two winning draws and two wins, followed by a win for the 5th XI on Sunday.
Beverley RUFC kicked off in this top of the table clash at Beaver Park with both sides looking to pick up the points to consolidate their positions in second and third place respectively.
After 5 minutes a Scarborough forward was caught offside and Phil Duboulay kicked the resulting penalty (3-0).
Beverley RUFC remain second in the table after they beat Moortown 48-22 at Beaver in a performance gaffer Will Turnbull described as outstanding.
Turnbull had called for his ahead of the game to be ready for what he felt would be a Titanic Battle and the response he got was just what the manager wanted.
On a fine, dry day Hullensians kicked off and immediately mounted an attack down the left flank. This was thwarted by some sound defending by Beverley but they were unable to make much headway into the Hullensians half initially and play was mostly concentrated on the Beverley 22.
On 7 minutes Hullensians were awarded a penalty which was successfully converted to give them a 3-0 lead. Despite the two sides looking to be pretty evenly matched, Beverley were unable to gain much possession and Hullensians were proving to be very good at retaining the ball. Eventually after 20 minutes, another successful penalty saw Hullensians take a 6-0 lead.
For the second consecutive Saturday, Beverley RUFC entertained Heath, this time in the Yorkshire Shield Quarter final, and again triumphed in a fast exciting game.
From the kick-off Heath attacked and kept up the pressure on the Beavers’ line for the first ten minutes until Beverley managed to break out and move upfield with some good interpassing.
Beverley RUFC will host Heath for the second time in as many weeks as they host the West Yorkshire outfit in the Yorkshire Shield.
Last Saturday the sides met in the league with the Beavers coming out on top as they won the match 33-30 with a last gasp try, putting in a performance the gaffer described as incredible.

Beverley RUFC went into a match that many supporters felt would not be a good afternoon for the Beavers who scored in the dying seconds to snatch the win.
An excellent game this between two evenly matched sides played in a good spirit by both sides.
Beverley RUFC , playing down the considerable slope and with the wind behind, immediately took advantage and mounted siege on the Brod’s line. After three minutes No 8 Isaac Keighley crashed over for a try which skipper Phil Duboulay duly converted to make the score 0-7.
Bradford Salem started this match in a manner which belied their lowly league position and Beverley were put under extreme pressure for the opening 10 minutes.
Bradford’s forwards were swarming all over them, albeit usually from suspiciously looking offside positions, and they were unable to escape from their own 22 and hold onto the ball for long.
Miserable cold, windy and wet conditions led inevitably to a game littered with mistakes and infringements and an afternoon to forget.
It has to be said that both sides endeavoured to put on a show but matters were not helped by the referee who must have been breathless by the end, judging by the amount of breath he expended blowing his whistle! Never the less he was there, and the conditions were ,no doubt, just as unpleasant for him.
Beverley RUFC kicked off on a wet and blustery afternoon at Beaver Park to start this Yorkshire Division 1 fixture, and immediately mounted an assault on the Keighley line.
But, largely due to determined defence by Keighley, were unable to capitalise on their possession of the ball in the early exchanges. In fact during this early period Keighley were unable to hang on to the ball for long enough to get out of their own half.
This was more like it. Not a great performance by any means but vastly improved from the dismal showing of the previous week and in the end a comfortable bonus point win.
In truth as a spectacle this was a pretty drab affair with not much running rugby and a relentless stream of penalties being awarded throughout.
